Greetings Volunteers and Player Families--
The CVTLL Board of Directors met via “Zoom” for a special meeting Thursday evening following news this week that the Vermont Mountaineers cancelled their season, the Vermont Principals Association cancelled Spring school sports seasons, and Little League cancelled the Little League World Series and Regional tournaments.
Our local Little League season has NOT been cancelled; however, the Board has decided to postpone 2020 Opening Day indefinitely (previously planned for Saturday, May 23rd). The Board feels that it is not reasonable or enjoyable for kids ages 4-12 to observe all of the public health guidelines while trying to play the game of baseball or softball. Guidelines such as:
-
Limiting the size of a gathering in public places;
- Maintaining six-feet of social distance;
- Properly using and cleaning facial coverings and other protective items;
- Being screened for symptoms, including fever;
- Sanitizing shared equipment;
The Board will meet again on Sunday, May 17th to consider the latest Public Health guidelines. If Opening Day cannot be definitively scheduled following the May 17th Board meeting, or if your plans are not compatible with Opening Day plans, registration fees will be credited for a future season, or refunded. We kindly ask that you allow us to hold your registration until a decision is made regarding the 2020 season. If this poses a financial hardship to your family during these trying times, please let us know.
Please note that the Board continues to strongly support providing baseball and softball seasons for the players in our communities, even if it stretches into summer.
In the meantime, the Board asks players and volunteers to promote beneficial activities:
-
Practice skills with other members of the household (Little League Backyard Tips);
- Contact your Town Representative to plan outdoor facility improvement projects;
- Contact the Board to ask how you can help prepare for the season.
Optimistically,
Volunteers from the Central Vermont Little League Board of Directors
