New Scoreboards Dedicated
Central Vermont Little League has recently dedicated three new scoreboards, thanks to an East Montpelier family.
The East Montpelier Recreation Board voted to have a wooden manual scoreboard built by Paul S. Winters for the front game field at the East Montpelier Recreation field four years ago. The design of the scoreboards was unique in that it contained a ‘trap door’ in the back to house a space for the vinyl hanging numbers as well as a flag to be flown on the side of the scoreboard. The top of the scoreboard was built with pressure treated lumber to protect the front of the scoreboard from the elements. The scoreboard was erected in honor of long time Little League coach and recreation field maintenance point person Carson Kimball Deforge (Basically the East Montpelier Recreation board prior to there ever being a board). The graphics/lettering for the scoreboard were created by ‘Sign Here’, a community business in East Montpelier.
Last year, Paul D. Winters (Little League Board Member) was approached by Central Vermont Little League Calais Representative Mike Wichrowski about replacing the aging scoreboard at the Calais Recreation field with a new manual scoreboard with a similar design. That scoreboard was built this past summer and was erected this fall in honor of long time Calais Recreation supporter and benefactor Bill Hudson.
Over this past summer, some very supportive Little League parents in Middlesex, lead by Amy Scribner wanted to raise a scoreboard for the Middlesex Recreation Field as a gift to the town from the Rumney School class of 2022. Amy and the parents held a fundraiser for this project in the form of a raffle for Red Sox tickets. This Scoreboard was also erected this fall and will be ready for use this spring. The scoreboard also identifies the Middlesex Recreation Field as ‘Ed Weed Field’.
Central Vermont Little League is fortunate to have these functional hand made signs to be enjoyed for many seasons to come.
